OHSU School of Nursing Associate Dean Wins Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rural Health Care

   LA GRANDE, Ore.

Jeanne Bowden, R.N., M.P.H., Ph.D., associate professor of nursing and associate dean of the Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing, La Grande campus, has received the Louis Gorin Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rural Health Care from the National Rural Health Association.

This award honors outstanding achievement, creativity and community action in the development of rural health care. Bowden has been instrumental in developing nursing programs that address health care shortages in rural eastern Oregon. Under her direction, the OHSU School of Nursing at Eastern Oregon University supports three nurse-managed health clinics, as well as school and community health programs to help improve health care access for those living in geographically isolated areas. For more than 20 years Bowden has been involved in the Rural Frontier Delivery Program, a distance education curriculum, the registered nurse and bachelor of science degrees, and graduate programs leading to master of science and doctoral degrees. She has brought her nursing services to Union, Baker, Grant, Harney, Lake and Wallowa counties.
