Local Conference Set to Promote Wellness and Health of Oregonians with Disabilities

   Portland, Ore.

WHAT:    

Celebrate Wellness II: A Conference Promoting the Health and Wellness of Oregonians with Disabilities.

WHEN:    

Monday, Oct. 15 and Tuesday, Oct. 16

WHO:    

The conference is designed for people with disabilities and the health professionals who work with them, and their family members.

WHERE:    

The Hilton Eugene and Conference Center, 66 East Sixth Ave.

DETAILS:    

Celebrate Wellness II will highlight a variety of health and wellness topics and options for people with disabilities. Conference speakers will present recent wellness research and theoretical models, and provide information about effective strategies for health promotion, education and wellness. Topics include: women's health issues, multicultural health issues, violence and abuse, disability and aging, complementary and alternative medicine, mental health issues, alcohol and drug abuse, and employment issues.

Speakers will be Grant Higginson, M.D., M.P.H., State Health Officer for Oregon and Kevin Hansen, president of World Wheelchair Sports and he is a former U.S. Paralympic track and field coach.

The conference is sponsored by the Oregon Office on Disability and Health, the Oregon Health Division, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
