Doernbecher Children's Foundation Names Shirley Papé Chairwoman of Healthier Kids Campaign

   Portland, Ore.

The Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation today announced that it has named Shirley Papé chairwoman of its $30 million Healthier Kids campaign.

This fund-raising effort -- part of a five-year OHSU-wide campaign called The Oregon Opportunity -- supports key Doernbecher projects and initiatives, including hospital expansion, construction of a new research facility, and endowments supporting faculty positions in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, pediatric hematology/oncology, cardiology, endocrinology, surgery, and child and adolescent psychiatry.

A longtime supporter of Doernbecher, Papé is enthusiastic about steering a campaign she believes will bring tangible benefits to the children of Oregon and beyond.

"The miracles that medical research can bring to the children of the world are wondrous to think about," said Papé. "This campaign will enable Doernbecher's researchers to remain focused, committed and enthusiastic about conquering the many illnesses of children. I feel privileged to be a part of it."

A prominent northwest philanthropist, Papé is a member of both the Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and the OHSU Foundation's Board of Trustees. Pape's late husband, Dean Papé, founded The Papé Group, a prominent west coast capital equipment sales and service organization.

"We are so lucky to have Shirley on our team," said Sue Nicol, executive director of Doernbecher Children's Hospital Foundation. "Her unwavering support of Doernbecher and her enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead make her an ideal leader."
