Portland, Ore.
Oregon Health & Science University's 2002 commencement ceremony for the Schools of Dentistry, Medicine and Nursing, and the OGI School of Science & Engineering is scheduled for Friday, June 7, at 8 p.m. in the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, S.W. Broadway and S.W. Main. Street.
The keynote speaker is Steven A. Schroeder, M.D., president of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Schroeder was trained as an internist and epidemiologist. Throughout his work with RWJF, he has continued to practice medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, N.J., where he is also a clinical professor of medicine. He is passionate about the topic of the uninsured because, as a physician, he knows firsthand how critical timely, affordable access to primary care is to ensuring individual health and well-being. As president of RWJF, he is also keenly aware of the costs of the uninsured at both the community and national level. The foundation has been generous to OHSU and OHSU-sponsored projects, giving millions throughout the years in areas such as student aid programs and preparing physicians for the future.
