OGI School of Science & Engineering Employees Receive Prestigious Awards and Appointment

   Portland, Ore.

The following employees at OHSU's OGI School of Science & Engineering recently received appointments and prestigious awards:

Richard (Dick) Fairley, Ph.D., is the new associate dean of graduate education for the OGI School of Science & Engineering at OHSU. In his new role, Fairley will oversee student recruitment and student services for the school. Fairley is a computer science professor who most recently was associate chairman for education in the school's Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prior to coming to the school, Fairley was dean of computer sciences at Colorado Technical University.

Fairly also recently received a commendation from the national headquarters of IEEE's (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Computer Society for his lead role in developing a Certified Software Development Professional Examination. The examination is IEEE's first professional certification program, which debuted for software engineers nationwide in spring 2002. Fairley lives in Beaverton.

Lisa Pickert, M.S., is the new enrollment manager in the Department of Graduate Education at OHSU's OGI School of Science & Engineering. As enrollment manager, Pickert will advise students, sit on the student council, help with student recruitment and liaison between students and faculty. Pickert most recently was academic coordinator in the school's Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Prior to joining the School of Science and Engineering, Pickert worked at Reed College. She lives in Portland.

Jeffrey Schilling, multimedia producer, has received a Bronze Award from the Media Communications Association International for a video program titled "Merger." The video was prepared to celebrate OGI's merger with OHSU in 2001 and was shown at Picnic in the Park, an annual School of Science & Engineering fund-raiser. Schilling lives in Portland.
