OHSU's OGI School of Science & Engineering Employees Receive Prestigious Appointments

The following employees at Oregon Health & Science University's OGI School of Science & Engineering recently received prestigious appointments:

Jim Huntzicker, Ph.D., has been appointed associate dean for industrial relations. In this role, Huntzicker will establish a new Industrial Relations Office at OHSU's OGI School of Science & Engineering. The office will develop relationships with regional industry leaders to better understand their needs for education/training, research, and technology; work with academic units to develop programs responsive to those needs; and promote existing School of Science & Engineering capabilities and resources to industry. Huntzicker, who has worked at the Science & Engineering School for the past 28 years, continues to head the school's Center for Professional Development. He lives in the Bethany area of Washington County.

Gebre Woldegiorgis, Ph.D., has been appointed to the National Institutes of Health, Center for Scientific Review, Metabolism Study Section. The Metabolism Study Section annually reviews more than 250 grants received by the NIH in metabolism-related fields. Woldegiorgis is an associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, who studies the structure-function relationship of enzymes responsible for transport of long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) for breakdown and energy production. His primary area of expertise is lipid biochemistry and metabolism. Woldegiorgis was selected based on the quality of his research, publications, and other scientific achievements and honors. He is the only Metabolism Study Section member from Oregon and will serve a four-year term. Woldegiorgis lives in Beaverton.
