OHSU Foundation Announces New Board Members

   Portland, Ore.

The Oregon Health & Science University Foundation today announced the election of new and returning members to the OHSU Foundation Board of Trustees. Walter H. Grebe, William P. McCormick, Evona Brim and M. Lee Pelton, Ph.D., have been elected to the OHSU Foundation Board of Trustees. John D. Eskildsen and the Honorable Elizabeth K. Johnson have been re-elected to the board.

Grebe is chairman emeritus of the Portland-based law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt. He has served on several nonprofit boards, including the Cultural District Committee for the Association for Portland Progress, the Northwest Business for Culture and the Arts, and the Boy Scouts of America, Cascade Council.

McCormick is co-owner and founder of McCormick & Schmick's Management Group, which manages a total of 40 restaurants nationwide, including such landmark Portland restaurants as Jake's Famous Crawfish, Jake's Grill, and McCormick & Schmick's Harborside. His current and past board memberships include the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, the National Restaurant Association, the Citizens Crime Association, the Portland Opera Association and the Oregon Restaurant Association.

Brim, an active community and civic leader, is a retired nurse. She and her late husband, A.E. "Gene" Brim, received the Aubrey R. Watzek Award in 1997 for their community and business leadership. Brim serves on several community nonprofit boards, including the Oregon Symphony, Planned Parenthood (where she established the Evona Brim Education Fund), and the American Association of University Women. She also volunteers at the Portland Art Museum and the American Red Cross.

Pelton is president of Willamette University and former dean of Dartmouth College. He serves on several national education boards including the American Association of Higher Education and the American Council on Education (Commission on Minorities in Higher Education). He is an active volunteer for his alma mater, holding positions on the Harvard University Board of Overseers and the Harvard Graduate School Alumni Association Council. He is also affiliated with several nonprofit organizations, including the United Way and the World Affairs Council.

Eskildsen was re-elected to the OHSU Foundation board after a one-year hiatus. He is the retired president and CEO of U.S. Bank of Oregon and past director of the Portland Chamber of Commerce, and has served on numerous nonprofit boards, including the Portland-Metro Leadership Council of the Oregon Community Foundation, S.M.A.R.T. (Start Making a Reader Today), and the Medical Research Foundation. He is past chairman of the OHSU Foundation Board of Trustees and currently heads the board's Council of Past Chairmen.

Johnson was re-elected to the OHSU Foundation board after a two-year hiatus. She is an Oregon State Representative (D-Scappoose), an active civic leader and volunteer. Johnson is an honorary member of the Columbia Aviation Association and director of the Northwest Film Study Council. She is director of the S.S. Johnson Foundation, a member of the OPB Foundation Board, and a founding member and former director of 1,000 Friends of Oregon.

The OHSU Foundation is governed by a board of trustees comprising civic leaders and members of Oregon's business communities. Trustees are responsible for formulating long-range goals, policies and operating procedures for the foundation. Board members are elected to four-year terms and may serve a maximum of two consecutive terms before a mandatory one-year hiatus.

The Oregon Health & Science University Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization securing private philanthropic support for Oregon Health & Science University. The foundation raises funds from individuals, companies, foundations and organizations, and invests and manages gifts in accordance with donors' wishes.
