OHSU Welcomes New Director for Center for Healthy Aging

   Portland, Ore.

Oregon Health & Science University invites the public to welcome the Center for Healthy Aging's new director, Carol Joseph, M.D., and to commemorate the new "Seasons of Life" artwork. The art was made possible through the generosity of Donald G. and William S. Findlay. The celebration is planned for Thursday, May 1, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the School of Nursing, 3455 S.W. U.S. Veterans Hospital Road, Portland.

Opening remarks will be given by William Gaynor, M.P.A., director of planning for the Center for Healthy Aging. Peter O. Kohler, M.D., OHSU president, will present the "OHSU Vision of the Center." Kathleen Potempa, D.N.Sc., R.N., F.A.A.N., OHSU vice president and dean of the School of Nursing, will speak on the history of the center. Joseph will present the "State of the Center."

There will be an unveiling of "Seasons of Life," painted by Angelina Woolley.

This event includes a wine and cheese reception and live musical entertainment. Free parking is available in the South Campus lot, across from the School of Nursing on Gaines Road.

Joseph, M.D., received her medical degree from OHSU, and completed both a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in geriatric medicine in Portland. Her experience includes work with both Kaiser Permanente and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Portland. She recently returned to Portland after several years as associate chief of staff, Geriatrics, Rehabilitation & Extended Care, and medical director of the Geriatric Transitional Care Unit of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. In addition to her new position as director of the Center for Healthy Aging, she will continue in her role as section chief of Geriatric Medicine at the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center, a role that includes responsibility for the geriatric fellowship there.
