High-Tech Guru to Address Aspiring Entrepeneurs at Free OGI School of Science & Engineering Seminar

   Portland, Ore.

WHAT

Startups have become somewhat out of fashion in the present financial climate. However, the flagging venture capital market conceals opportunities for bold entrepreneurs, according to Scott Gibson, co-founder of Sequent Computer Systems, who is a frequent adviser and board member to a variety of startup and established companies. In fact, says Gibson, it is precisely because fewer people are willing to take risks in the current economic climate that the chances of success are higher for those willing to start their own company.

Gibson will share his advice for success in today's economy in a lecture titled, "Entrepreneurship: Getting Started and Tips for Success." Gibson's lecture kicks off the OGI school's Entrepreneurship Speaker Series, one of several initiatives of OGI's newly formed Center for Technology Entrepreneurship.

Gibson's talk is free, but preregistration is required. For more information about "Entrepreneurship: Getting Started and Tips for Success," visit http://cpd.ogi.edu/class.asp?n=04-CPD-0909.

Gibson currently is chairman of the Radisys board and a board member of TriQuint Semiconductor, Pixelworks and NW Natural. He served 13 years as a trustee and five years as board chairman of the former Oregon Graduate Institute of Science & Technology, now the OGI School of Science & Engineering at Oregon Health & Science University. Gibson was appointed to the OHSU Governing Board as a result of the 2001 OHSU/OGI merger.
