OHSU Announces Appointments

   Portland, Ore.

Richard Brennan, Ph.D., the Richard T. Jones Professor of Structural Biology at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine, has been elected to the council of the 7,000-member Biophysical Society. The Biophysical Society is a professional scientific society established in 1956 to encourage development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics. Brennan's areas of expertise include the delineation of the structural and biochemical mechanisms of transcription regulation and multidrug binding, recognition and resistance.

Christopher Cunningham, Ph.D., has been named associate dean for graduate studies at the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. A professor of behavioral neuroscience, his primary new responsibilities will include providing leadership in programmatic and policy issues; participating in budget development and oversight; and convening and providing direction to the OHSU Graduate Council. He will also prepare the school's graduate program for its upcoming accreditation review.

Christopher Ryan, M.D., has joined the Oregon Health & Science University Cancer Institute, further enhancing the institute's expertise in prostate cancer treatment. He is now also an assistant professor of medicine (hematology and medical oncology) in the OHSU School of Medicine.

Ryan's focus on prostate cancer includes an emphasis on advanced forms of the disease and the bone complications it causes. His other clinical interests include cancers of the kidney and bladder as well as cancers of the muscle, bone, cartilage and other connective tissues. He was previously on the faculty of the University of Chicago, where he completed a hematology/oncology fellowship as well.
