OHSU Fertility Consultants Get Top Ranking in National Magazine

   Portland, Ore.

Oregon Health & Science University Fertility Consultants was listed as one of "America's Top Infertility Clinics" in the July issue of Town & Country, a major national magazine.

The list of the best hospital-affiliated clinics in the country, and the noted physicians who work there, was produced for Town & Country by a physician-led team of researchers from Castle Connolly Medical, a trusted publisher of health care guides including, "America's Top Doctors."

"The OHSU Fertility Program, which is a member of the OHSU Center for Women's Health, is not just one of the best for clinical care -- it is actively creating the next possibilities for fertility through its exceptional research. We offer options that no other center in the Northwest, and in some cases in the West, can even imagine. Even better, we do it with compassion and exceptional care," said Joanna Cain, M.D., director of the Center for Women's Health and chairwoman of obstetrics and gynecology, OHSU School of Medicine.

Kenneth Burry, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the OHSU School of Medicine, was listed in the magazine as being one of the noted specialists in fertility. OHSU Fertility Consultants has been under his direction since it was established in 1982.

"I would like to say that assisted reproductive technologies (ART) has been the most rewarding and interesting aspect of my professional life. I look forward to more advances in our ability to help deserving couples complete their families," Burry said.

OHSU University Fertility Consultants was established in 1982 under the direction of Kenneth Burry, M.D. It has achieved many firsts since then:

OHSU Fertility Consultants receive 17,000 patient visits a year. They offer a wide range of services, including patient egg donor services, embryo freezing, donor insemination, endometriosis treatment, treatment for menopause disorders, surrogacy medical care and psychological counseling for optimal care for each patient. It also has the largest donor egg program in the Northwest.

The program also is supported by advanced research in fertility problems. OHSU scientists recently were successful in achieving the first primate pregnancy from transplanted, primate ovarian tissue. It is hoped that this breakthrough will be applicable in preserving the reproductive potential of cancer survivors in the near future.

'OHSU was among 12 other outstanding fertility centers to receive national recognition, including: Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Massachusetts General Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College, Johns Hopkins Fertility Center, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, The Fertility Center at the Cleveland Clinic, The University of Pennsylvania Health System, University of North Carolina Hospitals, Barnes Jewish Hospital, University of Texas Health Science Center and the University of Colorado Hospital.
