OHSU School of Nursing Hartford Scholar Receives Genetics Writers Award

   Portland, Ore.

Karen Greco, R.N., M.N., A.N.P., OHSU School of Nursing student, has been awarded the 2004 MEDSURG Nursing in Genetics Writer's Award for her article "Nursing in the Genomic Era: Nurturing Our Genetic Nature." She will be awarded a plaque at the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses in September. Greco is a John A. Hartford Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Pre-Doctoral Scholar. She is the co-chairwoman of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics (ISONG) Professional Practice Committee, and she is secretary of the Genetic Nursing Credentialing Commission.

Previously, Greco has won the International Society of Nurses in Genetics Founders Award for her brochure, "What is a Genetic Nurse," which is now posted on the ISONG Web site as their official brochure http:/Avww.isong.org/practice/default.html.
