OHSU Foundation Announces New President

   Portland, Ore.

The Oregon Health & Science University Foundation today announced that it has named Stephen T. Sanders president.

Sanders comes to the OHSU Foundation from the University of Iowa Foundation, where he served as vice president for development during the university's landmark $1 billion fund-raising campaign. As development chief, Sanders oversaw gift commitments of more than $800 million with 75 percent of campaign contributions in the form of outright gifts.

While at the University of Iowa, Sanders also served as associate vice president and chief development officer for the university's Health Sciences Center, which comprises its hospitals and clinics as well as colleges of medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and public health.

In this capacity, Sanders helped facilitate the largest gift in the institution's history, a $63 million outright commitment for medical research and capital development for the College of Medicine.

"We are happy to welcome as foundation president someone with Stephen's exceptional range of skills and experience," said OHSU President Peter Kohler, M.D. "We believe that his success and enthusiasm for health and science fund-raising will prove an outstanding asset."

Sanders holds a bachelor's in organizational communications from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.

Sanders will begin his service as OHSU Foundation president on April 1, 2005.

The OHSU Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to secure private philanthropic support for Oregon Health & Science University. The foundation raises funds from individuals, companies, foundations and organizations, and invests and manages gifts in accordance with donors' wishes.
