WHAT: "Making Healthy Headlines," is an informational forum between members of the media and science and health researchers. The purpose is to better understand each others' needs; make contacts; share stories of concern and better understand why and what type of research gets reported by the media. Media, researchers and other interested participants are encouraged to attend.
The forum is presented by Oregon Health & Science University and Research!America, an alliance for discoveries in health.

WHO: Keynote speaker is Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., director, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, U.S. Department of Human Resources. Clancy is a general internist and health services researcher. Her major research interests include women's health, primary care, access to care and the impact of financial incentives on physicians' decisions.
Clancy holds an academic appointment as a clinical associate professor at George Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine and serves as senior associate editor, Health Services Research. Clancy is a member of multiple editorial boards including American Journal of Public Health, Annals of Family Medicine, Journal of General Internal Medicine and Medical Care Research and Review. Active in multiple professional organizations, she has been recognized as a leader within the Society of General Internal Medicine.
DETAILS: A panel of scientists and journalists will discuss ways of bridging the gap between researchers and the media. The panel includes: Christine Miles, KOIN-TV medical reporter; Len Reed, Oregonian Northwest editor; Susan Tolle, M.D., F.A.C.P., director, OHSU Center for Ethics in Health Care, professor of medicine, OHSU School of Medicine and Heather Young, Ph.D., G.N.P., F.A.A.N., director of Rural Health Research Development, Grace Phelps Distinguished Professor, OHSU School of Nursing. Andrew Holtz, M.P.H., board member and past president, Association of Health Care Journalists, will be the moderator.
