The Wolf's Hunt for a Cure Radiothon Raises $595,000 for Doernbecher

RADIO STATION 99.5 "THE WOLF" LISTENERS PLEDGE NEARLY $600,000 DURING 2006 DOERNBECHER RADIOTHON

Making gifts and pledges to the tune of $595,000, Portland country music fans struck a sweet note for the region’s sick kids during the annual 99.5 The Wolf’s Hunt for a Cure Radiothon benefiting Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Grateful radiothon organizers said proceeds from this year’s event exceeded last year’s total by 55 percent

Presented March 23 and 24 by the financial-services organization Foresters, the radiothon was broadcast from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. from the Doernbecher lobby. Live interviews with patients and their families, physicians and nurses, as well as lively appeals from The Wolf’s popular on-air personalities, kept the 170 phone-bank volunteers busy throughout the event.

The country music station’s listeners pledged a total of $595,319.05 to support research, medical care, pediatrics education and outreach programs at Doernbecher, which provides primary and specialized care to more than 56,500 young patients each year from Oregon, southwest Washington and beyond.

"We are so grateful to 99.5 The Wolf and its listeners for making this the most successful radiothon ever," said Sue Nicol, executive director of the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation. "The DJs were incredible, the phone-bank volunteers superb and the sponsors inspiring. And through it all, the hardworking Doernbecher foundation staff did an exceptional job of managing the effort. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this great success."

Other radiothon sponsors included John L. Scott Real Estate, Applebee’s, Furniture Outlet, Les Schwab and Premier Ford.

The Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that exists to secure private philanthropic support for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University.
