Oregon Health & Science University Cancer Institute is pleased to announce that Craig Nichols, M.D. will assume full-time duties as associate director for the institute's Cancer Clinical Research program. Nichols brings to the OHSU Cancer Institute more than 20 years of national and international experience in the design and execution of cancer clinical investigations as well as long-standing experience in regulatory oversight of cancer clinical trials.

Nichols has served as the head of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at OHSU, since 1998.  He is a professor of medicine, OHSU School of Medicine and the DeArmond Chair of Cancer Research.  In addition to his OHSU Cancer Institute administrative responsibilities, he will continue his clinical practice, research and educational activities, particularly in the areas of lymphoma and testicular cancer. He will also participate actively in the new Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology program at the OHSU Cancer Institute.

The OHSU Cancer Institute is the only cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute between Sacramento and Seattle. It comprises some 120 clinical researchers, basic scientists and population scientists who work together to translate scientific discoveries into longer and better lives for Oregon's cancer patients. In the lab, basic scientists examine cancer cells and normal cells to uncover molecular abnormalities that cause the disease. This basic science informs more than 200 clinical trials conducted at the OHSU Cancer Institute.
