Mark Williams To Head New Planning, Development and Real Estate Unit At OHSU

A new campus planning, development and real estate unit has been established by Oregon Health & Science University to reflect a strategic realignment of existing units within the university and Mark B. Williams has been named, effective July 1, to head it with the title of associate vice president.

“OHSU’s strategic plan has a goal of integrating areas throughout the university to create greater efficiency, key partnerships and optimal operational outcomes, and the new unit Mark Williams has been named to head will coordinate implementation of an institution-wide real estate plan,” said Steve Stadum, OHSU executive vice president.

The new unit will oversee OHSU’s South Waterfront activities, including planning for the Schnitzer Campus, as well as the office of space planning, which administers the university’s space planning and off-campus lease arrangements.

Williams currently is director of OHSU’s South Waterfront Project, a position he assumed in October 2004. In that role he has worked with the OHSU leadership team, city and county officials, neighborhood organizations, commercial developers and adjacent property owners to expedite development of the South Waterfront Central District, including the Portland Aerial Tram.

Before coming to OHSU, Williams served as general manager and chief executive officer for MERC (Metropolitan Exposition Recreation Commission), where he managed over $1 billion worth of public facilities, including the Oregon Convention Center and the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. Previously, he was chief operating officer for METRO, the Portland area regional government. Williams earned his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and his law degree from the University of Oregon.
