"Managing the Medical Product Cycle" is the first bioscience course being offered by the MST Department at OHSU's School of Science & Engineering and is part of a proposed track in bioscience in the MST Masters degree program that is scheduled to be offered in Spring of 2008.

Taught by Bioscience Industry expert Philip Benz, Vice President of Advanced Vascular Dynamics, a Portland-based medical device company which makes products used in cardiac cath labs and nursing departments, Mr. Benz has extensive experience in health information systems, medical devices, along with telemedicine systems marketed to practitioners and hospitals. Having earned his MBA and MPH at UCLA, he has worked in management, marketing, sales, and business development roles. Mr. Benz has enjoyed success in developing and marketing new products, building distribution channels, and creating profitable business alliances in both established and early-stage companies.

The Managing the Medical Product Cycle class, along with the proposed track in Bioscience are being implemented to meet the needs of the growing bioscience industry within Oregon and the entire Pacific Northwest region. Long term plans include offering the Bioscience track along with the entire Masters degree in an online format.

This class and degree track is only the newest of a variety of offerings in Bioscience education at OHSU's School of Science & Engineering. Other Bioscience departments and programs include Biomedical Engineering, and Computational Bioscience.
