WHAT: Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop, M.D., will give the first annual John R. Campbell Pediatric Surgery Lecture titled “Pediatric surgery: A 62-year perspective from the nation’s oldest children’s hospital.” The lecture is free and open to the public.
Koop is emeritus professor of surgery and pediatrics, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; and emeritus surgeon-in-chief, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (the nation’s oldest children’s hospital). He was surgeon general, U.S. Public Health Service, and deputy assistant secretary for health, Department of Health and Human Services, from 1982 to 1989.
The John R. Campbell, M.D., Lectureship in Pediatric Surgery has been established in tribute to an outstanding teacher and the first pediatric Surgeon at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. The need to exchange knowledge was important to Campbell. This annual lectureship is an effort to bring new ideas and thinking in pediatric surgery to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.
