OHSU School of Medicine’s primary care and family medicine specialties are among the top five in the nation, according to recent rankings by U.S. News and World Report
For more than a decade, U.S. News and World Report has consistently ranked Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine’s education programs among the best in the nation. And this year is no different, according to the news magazine's America's Best Graduate Schools 2009 Edition.

Among the 126 medical schools participating in the survey, the news magazine ranks OHSU School of Medicine's primary care program second, tied with University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This ranking is up two spots from last year and is the 13th consecutive year OHSU's primary care program has ranked in the top three percent. Rankings are based on peer assessment surveys.

According to the news magazine, the medical school's family medicine specialty also ranks second in the nation. OHSU's family medicine specialty has ranked among the top five nationwide for 14 years in a row. The medical school’s rural medicine program also landed in the top 10 among participating medical schools - the program was ranked ninth, tied with West Virginia University.

U.S. News and World Report also ranks medical schools based on average research funding per faculty member in the medical school and affiliated hospitals. Based upon this methodology, the OHSU School of Medicine ranks 35th in this category.
