OHSU Expands Orthopaedic Oncology With Appointment of New Specialist

Health Care

Oregon Health & Science University has significantly expanded its orthopaedic oncology program with the recent appointment of Zachary Adler, M.D. Adler is teaming with James Hayden, M.D., OHSU orthopaedic oncologist, to treat soft tissue sarcoma, bone tissue sarcoma, and abnormal soft tissue and bone tissue masses. Adler’s appointment means there are now two orthopaedic oncologists in the state of Oregon.

“There is opportunity for significant growth and change in the ways we treat sarcomas,” said Adler, assistant professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation in the OHSU School of Medicine. “We will offer a multidisciplinary approach, with myself and Dr. Hayden on the surgical side working closely with radiation and medical oncology specialists. All three disciplines are pivotal for the best care.”

Adler comes to OHSU from the University of Florida in Gainesville where he completed his orthopaedic oncology fellowship. Prior to his work in Florida, Adler served a five-year residency at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He earned his doctorate of medicine from the MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

Adler is conversant in Spanish. He is seeing patients in the OHSU Physicians Pavilion. For appointments call 503 494-6400.
