OHSU Appoints Interim Chief Financial Officer

Oregon Health & Science University has named Jim Walker interim chief financial officer for the university and health system.

Oregon Health & Science University has named Jim Walker interim chief financial officer for the university and health system. Walker previously worked for OHSU from 1984 to 2002 and held several posts during that time, including CFO of OHSU Hospitals and Clinics, vice president of finance, and executive vice president of finance and administration. Last month OHSU’s current CFO, Brad King, announced his plans to return home to New Orleans where he will resume his health care consulting practice at the end of February.
“I am happy to accept this position at OHSU,” said Walker. “I decided to return and place retirement on hold because OHSU’s services are so critical to Oregonians and because the institution plays an important economic role in the state. I am excited about working with OHSU’s board of directors and the university’s leadership team to ensure that health care and health training services remain available during these difficult economic times. We also want to be certain that OHSU remains one of the top academic health centers in the country.”
Walker currently resides in Georgia with his wife, Ginny. From 2002 to 2004, Walker served as vice president of finance for Lewis & Clark College. Prior to his employment at OHSU, Walker served the University of New Mexico Hospital in a variety of positions, including CFO, accounting manager and financial analyst. He also worked as an accounting manager for Albuquerque Western Industries.
“I could not be more pleased with Jim Walker’s decision to return to OHSU,” said OHSU President Joe Robertson, M.D. M.B.A. “During this unprecedented and challenging time, OHSU will greatly benefit from a CFO who is intimately familiar with the institution and can hit the ground running.”
Walker will return to OHSU during the first week of February to work with the current CFO and other financial leaders during a transition period. King will remain OHSU’s CFO through February. Walker will then become interim CFO and will remain in the post until a permanent replacement is located.
