Oregon Health & Science University has announced that a national search to replace outgoing provost Lesley Hallick, Ph.D., will begin this summer. Until a new provost is selected, vice provosts Robert Vieira, Ph.D., and David Robinson, Ph.D., will serve as interim provosts.
In a letter to OHSU faculty members, president Joe Robertson, M.D., M.B.A., said that "[Drs. Vieira and Robinson] will provide excellent interim leadership as we re-examine the portfolio of academic responsibilities at OHSU and search for a candidate who can provide the leadership we need in the future."
In late May, Hallick, a long time OHSU faculty member, provost and vice president, announced that she had accepted a position as president of Pacific University. She will leave OHSU by Aug. 1, but the national search for her replacement is expected to begin well before that date.
Prior to her departure from OHSU, Hallick will transition leadership responsibilities to Vieira and Robinson.
Vieira has served as OHSU's vice provost for academic and student affairs since 2000. In his new role as interim provost for academic and student affairs, he will assume primary responsibility for accreditation, academic affairs, student affairs, OHSU's relationship with the Oregon University System (OUS) and academic program approval.
Robinson, a faculty member in the department of physiology and pharmacology since 1998, has served as OHSU's vice provost for academic technology since 2006. In his new role as interim provost for education and research, he will assume primary responsibility for faculty support and working with OHSU leadership on academic and work force programs, for stimulus package initiatives in education and education infrastructure, and for OHSU's state budgeting efforts.
