portland_monthly_0110_125Portland Monthly magazine honored 97 OHSU physicians in its annual survey of Portland’s “Top Doctors.” This represents the largest percentage of physicians from any hospital or health system in the area.

The magazine’s January 2010 issue asked 7,000 Oregon physicians and nurses to name one physician in multiple categories whom they would choose if they “or a loved one were in need of medical help” in that specialty. Ninety-seven OHSU physicians were chosen all together, in 64 of the 73 specialties listed. Two appeared in more than one category, and OHSU physicians were the only ones listed in seven of the categories.

“We are proud of our physicians recognized in this survey,“ said Mark Richardson, M.D., M.B.A., Dean, OHSU School of Medicine and President, OHSU Faculty Practice Plan. “At the same time, we are equally appreciative of the outstanding work being carried out each and every day by all our faculty members across our education, clinical and research missions.”

In a related article appearing in the magazine on trauma teams, Portland Monthly took a close look at the work of four of OHSU’s trauma physicians. As one of only two Level 1 trauma centers in the area, OHSU’s emergency physicians see a wide variety of cases.
