OHSU Statements on Health Care Reform

Health Care , Education

From OHSU President Joe Robertson, M.D., M.B.A.:

“OHSU would like to thank our congressional delegation for their hard work on the health care reform bill. This bill is an important step in the right direction as it greatly expands the number of Oregonians with health care coverage. It will assist small businesses across the state in insuring their employees. We’re also pleased that the bill addresses many of Oregon’s key current needs, including increased Medicare reimbursement so that our state receives its fair share when compared to other states. We look forward to continued work with Oregon’s delegation on the many health care reform issues that still need to be addressed.”

From OHSU School of Medicine Dean Mark Richardson. M.D.:

“This bill goes a long way in reforming our nation’s ailing health care system. These are reforms that will impact countless Oregon patients who are currently uninsured.  As medical educators, our next challenge is to make sure that there are enough trained medical providers - such as physicians, nurses and physician assistants - to care for the increased number of insured patients. In the state of Oregon, OHSU’s Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Dentistry will play key roles here.”
