Dr. Langley appointed Chief of the Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery Section

Stephen Langley, MDStephen Langley MD, MBBS, FRCS, FETCS, has been appointed Chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at OHSU and OHSU Doernbecher Children's hospitals, effective May 1, 2010. Dean Richardson has also appointed Dr. Langley to the John C. Hursh Endowed Chair in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.  

Dr. Langley joined the OHSU faculty in 2007 from Southampton University Hospital where he served as a pediatric and adult cardiac surgeon. He received an MD from the London Hospital Medical College and completed internship, residency and fellowship training at several distinguished universities including the Royal London Hospital, Southampton University Hospital and Duke University Medical Center.  

Dr. Langley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, with a joint appointment in the Department of Pediatrics. He is also Director of the OHSU Pediatric Cardiac Surgical Research group. Dr. Langley is an expert in the treatment of complex congenital heart conditions, including neonatal surgery and adult congenital cardiac procedures. His research interests include cerebral protection and cardiopulmonary bypass strategies in patients with congenital heart disease.

"Dr. Langley will lead the Section and the children's heart program into an era of renewed growth and vitality."
