Chad Burk, third year med student, joins 116 medical, dental, and veterinary students from 47 schools across the country to spend a year in a lab doing hands-on research as part of the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health Medical Research Scholars program that seeks to strengthen and expand the pool of medically-trained researchers. Students are housed on the NIH campus in the HHMI owned Cloister. Chad lists his research interests as immunology, biomarker discovery, theranostic nanomedicine and molecular imaging, and targeted drug delivery and gene therapy. As an undergraduate, he was a Bioengineering major with a Biotechnology emphasis at University of California, San Diego.
