Judge HicksFifty-nine members of the OHSU School of Medicine faculty were recommended by the Promotion and Tenure Committee for promotion, appointment or tenure during the 2009-2010 academic year.

Speaking at a reception, Dean Mark Richardson congratulated them on their achievement and encouraged them to consider mentoring new faculty members. "This process underlines for me what a multi-talented faculty we have, and the many areas in which they make their contributions," he said.

A new promotion pathway was created this year to recognize the exceptional contributions of faculty in the School of Medicine whose focus is primarily on the clinical mission. Twenty-two faculty members were honored with this clinician-educator recognition and promotion.

"Forty, 30, even Beth Habacker20 years ago I would never have thought that I would be here today," said James "Judge" Hicks, MD, Clinical Professor, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, who spoke at the reception. "OHSU plays an incredible role in the lives of Oregonians, and its goals have given me my life's purpose."

"I am honored to be in this freshman class of clinician-educators," said Holger Link, MD, Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics. "I look forward to helping others as they come through."

The newly-promoted faculty members represented 18 out of the 27 departments in the School and their new ranks or status were approved by the Provost and became effective on July 1, 2010. Click here for a full list.
