Student From Across Oregon to Take Part in Hands-On Health Career Event at OHSU

WHAT:    High school students from across Oregon are taking part in Oregon Health & Science University’s Jr. Medstars program at OHSU

WHEN:     Thursday October 7 through Saturday October 9

WHERE:    Oregon Health & Science University – Marquam Hill Campus

DETAILS: Jr. Medstars is a program that offers students across the state of Oregon with the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience in working in the health care field. It is specially geared towards high schoolers considering a career in health care. Students taking part in the program travel to Portland on Thursday October 7th, after staying the night at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, the students will travel to OHSU for several events including:
•    A surgery skills lab where students will learn about minimally invasive surgery using specialized training equipment.
•    Experience in a simulation lab working with mannequins designed to stimulate human health conditions.
•    The chance to discuss health careers with panels of OHSU health care providers.

The Jr. Medstars program is possible thanks to funding from the Oregon Area Health Education Centers, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and OHSU.
