Drs. Smith and Wax receive award from National Medical Society

The Department of Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery’s Timothy Smith, MD, Professor, and Mark Wax, MD, Professor have received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).

The Academy presents Distinguished Service Awards to medical professionals in recognition of extensive meritorious service through the presentation of instructional courses, scientific papers, participation on a continuing education committee, or Academy leadership position.

Dr. Smith’s practice is focused on nasal and sinus disease and surgery including management of chronic sinusitis, polyps, allergy, septal deviation, growths and tumors of the sinuses and skull base, and cerebrospinal fluid leaks.

Dr. Wax`s clinical interest is in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of head and neck patients undergoing surgical procedures for head and neck oncology. He also specializes in treating snoring and sleep apnea.

The doctors were presented with the award at the opening ceremony of the 2010 AAO-HNS Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, on September 26.

“I am very honored to receive this award for service to our specialty, particularly teaching service, and am proud to represent OHSU at a national level,” said Dr. Smith.
