OHSU and OMSI Host First Annual Oregon Science and Engineering Festival This Weekend

Oregon’s event is the state counterpart to the USA Science & Engineering Festival, being held this same weekend on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

WHAT:     The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and Oregon Health & Science University are hosting the Oregon Science and Engineering Festival this weekend. The purpose of the event is to re-invigorate Oregon students’ interest in science, technology, engineering and math.

WHEN:     10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, October 23, 2010

WHERE:     Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, 1945 SE Water Ave., Portland, Oregon

DETAILS: Several groups will host science exhibits at the event including: the Girl Scouts of Oregon & SW Washington, the American Chemical Society, the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Oregon University System, Saturday Academy, OHSU THINK FIRST (head injury prevention organization), the OHSU Department of Biomedical Engineering, the OHSU School of Medicine and the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.

While Oregon’s science festival is taking place in Portland, a number of scientists and educators from OHSU will be hosting displays at the first annual USA Science & Engineering Festival October 23-24 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

OHSU’s exhibit at the national fair is called ” Let’s Get Healthy!” The interactive display was developed by OHSU scientists to teach the public about their health while at the same time allowing them to take part in the scientific process.
