50th Anniversary of MeSH (Medical Subject Headings)

Often, finding the exact article or book you need for your research, teaching or learning needs can be hit and miss – unless you know the precise term to use.

National Library of Medicine librarians, with the aid of thousands of other health sciences librarians, have been diligently creating and honing medical searching terms (MeSH – Medical Subject Headings) for fifty years.

As of 2010, MeSH contains more than 25,00 subject headings, with 83 subheadings.  For more information on the history of MeSh, please see NLM's Celebrating MeSH: 50 years of Medical Subject Headings.

And to all those amazing librarians who have contributed so much:  We, who are about to search, salute you!
