Dr. Nyendak selected as Associate Scientific Advisor to the Science Translational Medicine journal

Dr. NyendakMelissa Nyendak, MD, MHS, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, has received an appointment as Associate Scientific Advisor to the Science Translational Medicine journal, a post previously held by another OHSU faculty member, Joshi Alumkal, MD, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine.

According to their website, the mission of Science Translational Medicine is to promote human health by providing a forum for communication and cross-fertilization among basic, translational, and clinical research practitioners and trainees from all relevant established and emerging disciplines.

Dr. Nyendark studies tuberculosis, and she received an NIH career development award through OCTRI’s KL2 program. The program supports early-career investigators as they pursue a mentored, translational research project for up to five years. Dr. Nyendak was chosen to present at the 2010 OCTRI Awards Dinner based on the success of her KL2 project, entitled “Definition of Human Immunodominant CD8 Antigens in Tuberculosis. Her mentors are Drs. David and Deborah Lewinsohn.
