Dr. Guyton named Division Chief, Cardiothoracic Surgery

Dr. GuytonSteve Guyton, MD, MHA, Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, has been named Division Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at OHSU. Dr. Guyton’s primary clinical interests are mitral valve repair, off pump coronary artery bypass, less invasive surgical approaches, and cost effective cardiac surgical care.

Dr. Guyton graduated from Harvard Medical School and trained in General and Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He trained in Lean methodology at Virginia Mason Medical Center and was named a Hardy Cross Dillard Scholar at the University of Virginia School of Law. He earned a Masters Degree in Health Administration from the University of Washington and currently serves a Physician Advisor to the OHSU Care Management Department. He also serves on the Standards and Ethics Committee.

Dr. Guyton has helped develop collaborative cardiac surgical relationships with other area hospitals. He stresses that excellence in cardiothoracic surgery depends on cohesive teams of highly functioning colleagues.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with the outstanding teams caring for our cardiothoracic surgery patients at OHSU,” said Dr. Guyton.
