Bob Applegate named to new community engagement post at OHSU

Longtime Northwest communications executive Bob Applegate has been named associate director for institutional communications and community engagement at Oregon Health & Science University.

Applegate has extensive experience in communications and engagement work throughout Oregon. He was the communications director for Gov. John Kitzhaber during Kitzhaber’s first two terms of office. He was chief public affairs officer for the Port of Portland for four years and then served as Oregon communications director for Nike from 2006 to 2009. Most recently, Applegate operated Applegate Communication, working with a wide variety of regional clients.

The newly created position within the Strategic Communications department at OHSU was established to increase the institution’s participation with civic organizations that have shared goals. In his new post, Applegate will work to strengthen OHSU’s ties and engagement with the Portland community and the state.
