Anyone with unmet medical needs can obtain free assistance at an upcoming event organized by health care students across the state to provide access to services and items that help people live healthier lives. Hosted by Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), the annual Health Screening Fair offers free medical screenings, personal hygiene items and dental, vision and hearing exams as well as information on how to access resources such as social service care, mental health care, housing information, job assistance and much more.

Students and faculty from OHSU, Portland State University, Oregon State University, Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Osteopathic Medicine and the National College of Natural Medicine will be on hand to schedule follow-up medication appointments and referrals to addiction, mental health and domestic violence services, as needed.

The Health Screening Fair will take place on the last day of Health Care Equality Week (HCEW). The week features student-run lectures and volunteer events designed to raise awareness about disparities in the U.S. health care system. More than 150 students, faculty and community health professionals volunteer during the Health Screening Fair to serve more than 200 underserved Oregonians each year. The fair is held in conjunction with the weekly free meal service “Potluck in the Park” in O’Bryant Square.
