With its latest round of funding, the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute’s Community Partnership Program has distributed more than $2 million in funding to support community-based cancer prevention, screening and survivorship programs in every Oregon county.

“To reach a milestone of this magnitude in just a few short years is very gratifying,” said Kerri Winters-Stone, Ph.D., co-director of the three-year-old program. “When I think of the projects that have started, or have grown, with this resourcing, I know we’re helping to make a difference for Oregonians in our fight against cancer.”

The latest round of funding, totaling $320,000, supports 10 new and three previously funded projects that target a diverse range of cancer types and demographics from La Pine to Lakeview to Coos Bay. Two such projects, the Urban League of Portland and Susan G. Komen Oregon and SW Washington, focus on outreach and screening efforts for African-Americans.

The Community Partnership Program began distributing grants in 2015, and has endeavored to build sustainable collaborations with organizations throughout Oregon by providing multiple tiers of funding and other resources, including nationally based training designed to increase capacity and knowledge for implementing evidence-based programs, networking opportunities with other grantees and potential partners, and one-on-one technical assistance on program design and evaluation.
