OHSU statement on immigration restrictions

Viewpoint

OHSU is deeply concerned that the impact of the White House’s recent executive decision to limit the entry of certain foreign workers to the U.S. will weaken our country’s health care workforce and biomedical research enterprise at a time when we need them the most. Restricting immigration for talented and compassionate faculty, staff, and learners undermines our ability to serve patients and train the next generation of health care providers and biomedical researchers.

In our research labs, classrooms, and at the bedside, foreign workers strengthen our mission to improve the health and well-being of Oregonians. We could not do what we do without their contributions.

We strongly affirm our position that all are welcome at OHSU. We recognize the stress this announcement may cause members of our research, health and learning communities and their families, and want to express our support for anyone concerned about their position. You are a valued member of OHSU and an essential part of a diverse and culturally competent workforce that we are proud of.
