OHSU, ONA collective bargaining enters week 4
January 19, 2023
OHSU ONA collective bargaining
On Wednesday, Jan. 18, members of the Oregon Health & Science University and Oregon Nurses Association bargaining teams met for a fourth day of negotiations and the second day of in-person negotiations at ONA headquarters.
Starting with acknowledgment of a tragic loss
The teams started the day with ONA reading a statement regarding the recent, tragic loss of a member of our OHSU community. ONA led a moment of silence to reflect upon that loss.
OHSU provided one proposal and one counterproposal for ONA’s consideration:
- OHSU provided a counterproposal around labor and delivery call. OHSU agreed to change the default from mandatory to voluntary call, and reserved the right to require call if the necessary call shifts are not filled through voluntary call.
- OHSU also made a proposal regarding the Home Infusion MOU. This proposal eliminated deductions in mileage and travel time from existing language.
This week the ONA team shared two proposals and responded to OHSU’s labor and delivery counterproposal:
- ONA proposed clarifying changes to language in Appendix D regarding the Transition to Practice Program.
- ONA also brought forward a Memorandum of Understanding for the Maternal Newborn Float Pool, and asked OHSU to reconsider the MOU regarding voluntary call for labor and delivery.
The parties did not reach tentative agreements this session.
The teams are meeting weekly for the next five weeks. Negotiations will resume Jan. 25, 2023, in-person at OHSU.
