Vitamin C boosts placental health, changes gene activity in smokers

In OHSU's continued research on how to mitigate the impacts of smoking on fetal development, Eliot Spindel, M.D., Ph.D., and Cindy McEvoy, M.D., have found vitamin C supplementation improves blood flow from the placenta to the fetus in pregnant smokers, bringing it closer to the levels seen in non-smokers.
