Pediatric patients unable to participate in Portland’s Be The Match Walk+Run on Sunday, July 12, will put on race bibs and join physicians, nurses and staff in a walk through OHSU Doernbecher’s halls in celebration of their life-saving transplants made possible by bone marrow and cord blood donors found through Be The Match.

Each year, more than12,000 people across the United States are diagnosed with a disease, such as leukemia, that can be treated or cured by a bone marrow or cord blood transplant. Approximately 70 percent of patients must rely on Be The Match to find a donor.

Be The Match Registry is the largest and most diverse listing of volunteer marrow donors and umbilical cord blood units in the world.

Be The Match Walk+Run raises funds to add more donors to Be The Match Registry, help patients with uninsured treatment costs, and support research to improve the outcomes of bone marrow transplantation, giving more patients hope for a cure.
