OHSU statement on separating families seeking asylum

OHSU opposes the separation of families seeking asylum, and our hearts go out to the children and families who have been needlessly torn apart. As scientists and health care providers, we know that separating children from their parents has terrible emotional and psychological consequences and, in this case, exacerbates the trauma for an already vulnerable group of children. That this needs to be stated is worse than regrettable – it is heartbreaking.
