2018 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection to be unveiled Saturday, Nov. 10

Six patient-designed Nike shoe, apparel collections to be auctioned to benefit OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

WHAT: 

Preview the 2018 Doernbecher Freestyle collection before it’s unveiled for public auction.

The collection features one-of-a-kind footwear and apparel collections designed by six OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital patients who were paired with a dedicated Nike design and development team.

Attending media will be able to:

  • Take photos and video of the patient-designers and their families as they reveal their designs for the first time.
  • Conduct interviews with patient-designers about the inspiration behind each design as well as how the Doernbecher Freestyle experience has impacted their lives.
  • Hear Dana Braner, M.D., F.A.A.P., F.C.C.M., and others, describe how funds raised through the Doernbecher Freestyle program support patient care. Braner is Credit Unions for Kids chair and professor of pediatrics (critical care medicine), OHSU School of Medicine; and physical-in-chief, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

Doernbecher Freestyle represents a partnership between Nike and OHSU Doernbecher to provide young patients facing serious medical conditions the opportunity to design limited-edition footwear and apparel to support the children’s hospital. Now in its 15th year, the program has raised nearly $20 million to expand pioneering research, support clinical care, purchase state-of-the-art equipment, recruit new experts and help cover the cost of care for families most in need.
