The following announcement was shared with OHSU members from the Office of OHSU Provost Marie Chisolm-Burns.
Dear OHSU community,
I am pleased to announce that Paul K. Halverson, Dr.P.H., M.H.S.A., has been appointed dean of OHSU-PSU School of Public Health. He will begin his role as dean and professor Feb. 1, 2024, and will provide overall leadership for the school. During the interim, Dr. Rick Johnson will continue to support the school as interim dean. I look forward to welcoming Dr. Halverson and working with him to advance the success of the school and its members.
Dr. Halverson has served as professor and founding dean of Indiana University’s Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health since May 2013. His Doctor of Public Health is from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and his Master of Health Services Administration is from Arizona State University. Dr. Halverson previously served as the State Health Officer in Arkansas and as the Director of the Division of Public Health Systems Development and Research at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He previously held faculty leadership roles at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Please join me in thanking Dr. Rick Johnson for his service as interim dean of the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health since July 1, 2022, while we conducted a national search for a permanent dean. I extend heartfelt gratitude for his leadership during a period of great transition.
I’d also like to thank our search committee, co-chaired by Drs. Ron Sakaguchi and Jose Coll, for their commitment to the search process.
I look forward to sharing more as we get closer to Dr. Halverson joining the OHSU-PSU communities in 2024.
Sincerely,
Marie Chisholm-Burns, Pharm.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., FCCP, FASHP, FAST, FACHE
