OHSU Health and Aetna®, a CVS Health company, today announced a new multi-year agreement that will keep OHSU Health as an in-network provider for Aetna members. This agreement includes OHSU Health clinics, hospitals and the health care providers who coordinate care across the system, including Oregon Health & Science University Hospital, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, Adventist Health Portland and Hillsboro Medical Center.
Both organizations worked diligently to reach a fair agreement without impacting patient care for current Aetna members.
“OHSU Health believes that all Oregonians should have access to the best care possible,” said John Hunter, M.D., chief executive officer of OHSU Health. “The new contract with Aetna helps the state’s only academic health center and its OHSU Health system hospitals and providers continue to offer advanced, high-quality care.”
“We are committed to serving Aetna members with access to high-quality, affordable care through our network of providers,” said John Wagner, chief network officer for Oregon at Aetna. “OHSU is a long-standing and valued network provider, and we are pleased to continue working with them to care for our members and deliver on our shared goal of improving health outcomes for Oregonians.”
In October, OHSU Health notified approximately 30,000 OHSU Health patients that OHSU Health could no longer be a participating provider in Aetna’s network, starting Jan. 1, 2024. OHSU Health will send these patients another letter to announce that a new agreement with Aetna has been reached.
