U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer will join Bonnie Nagel, Ph.D., senior associate vice president for research at Oregon Health & Science University, to reflect on his legacy and what to expect in the future of federal funding support for neuroscience research. Blumenauer will be introduced by John Ngai, Ph.D., director of the National Institutes of Health’s BRAIN Initiative.

Blumenauer has announced he will retire following 14 terms representing Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District. In 2010, Blumenauer established the Congressional Neuroscience Caucus to enhance policies that support research and dissemination of discoveries, and in 2013 was a key advocate in establishing the NIH’s BRAIN Initiative to accelerate development of neurotechnologies. The conversation is part of OHSU’s annual Brain Awareness Season lecture series, an annual event dating back to 2000. The event is open to the public through a livestream link.
