OHSU appoints chief financial officer

Announcement from OHSU President Shereef Elnahal, M.D., M.B.A.
Maulin Patel has a shaved hair style and is wearing a suit in tie.

The following message was sent to the Oregon Health & Science University community on Monday, Aug. 31:

Dear colleagues,

I’m pleased to announce Maulin Patel, M.B.A., has accepted the position of chief financial officer and executive vice president, following an exhaustive national search with many competitive candidates. In this role, he will provide strategic and financial counsel to the president, executive leadership team and board of directors.

Since joining OHSU in 2011, Maulin has served in progressively broader strategic roles through periods of growth, transformation and financial complexity. Prior to his appointment as chief financial officer and EVP, Maulin served as senior vice president of finance and treasurer at OHSU, responsible for enterprise-wide financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury and capital markets in support of managed care strategy, supply chain and logistics, and campus planning and real estate.

During his 15-year tenure, Maulin’s work at OHSU has centered on strengthening financial performance to fund our people, programs and places, including long-range financial strategy, capital allocation, debt and liquidity management, and enterprise transformation.

Like many OHSU members, Maulin’s connection to OHSU is personal. Raised in rural eastern Oregon, he saw firsthand how access to highly specialized care — and OHSU’s role in delivering it — shapes outcomes for communities far from Portland. That experience continues to inform his commitment to ensuring OHSU’s long-term financial strength, in service to people around the state, and beyond, for many generations to come.

“I’m excited to partner with leaders throughout the organization to advance a service-oriented finance model across our patient care, research, academic and outreach missions that is grounded in transparency, accountability and impact,” Maulin said.

Maulin earned his undergraduate degree in finance and economics from the University of Oregon, and his M.B.A. from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He has lived in Oregon for more than 40 years and has close ties to many communities OHSU serves. Away from work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to Jeff Jones for serving as interim chief financial officer since December 2025. Please join me in congratulating Maulin and wishing Jeff all the best in his next endeavor.

Sincerely,

Shereef Elnahal, M.D., M.B.A.
OHSU President
