Army combat medics and licensed practical nurses routinly are embedded at Oregon Health & Science University for about two weeks to sharpen their health care skills. They visit OHSU through the U.S. Army Medical Command’s Strategic Medical Asset Readiness Training, or SMART, program, which helps Army health care personnel remain ready for service during times of peace.
