OHSU Hospital ranks among the best in the country and No. 1 in Oregon, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals 2020-2021,” and six of its adult specialties are ranked among the top 50 nationwide.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings, which have appeared annually since 1990, are designed to assist patients and their clinicians in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.
OHSU adult specialties ranked among the nation’s top 50 include:
- 47th in Cardiology and Heart Surgery
- 20th in Ear, Nose and Throat (Otolaryngology)
- 34th in Gastroenterology and GI Surgery
- 27th in Geriatrics
- 37th in Neurology and Neurosurgery
- 37th in Pulmonology and Lung Surgery
OHSU adult specialties rated as “high-performing” include:
Methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures, such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
U.S. News also rates hospitals on how well they treat patients 65 and older for certain common adult procedures and conditions. The magazine rated OHSU as high-performing in treating:
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
- Aortic valve surgery
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
- Colon cancer surgery
- Heart bypass surgery
- Heart failure
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Lung cancer surgery
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement
“Best Children’s Hospitals 2020-21” rankings were released in June, and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital ranks in six specialties:
- 40th in Cancer
- 30th in Diabetes & Endocrinology
- 32nd in Neonatology
- 32nd in Nephrology
- 36th in Neurology and neurosurgery
- 44th in Orthopedics
