The frequency of gun violence incidents and their impact on our collective sense of safety is both heartbreaking and traumatic. For the five lives lost, the 18 injured and the countless others impacted by the weekend shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs, we extend our deepest condolences.

While the motive for the shooting remains unclear, we do know that incidents of hate and violence targeted at individuals who are LGBTQIA+ are on the rise. And this undoubtedly renews trauma carried from past incidents. No one should have to fear for their safety or their lives for simply being who they are.

Here at OHSU, we are working hard every day to build a diverse, equitable environment where all people can thrive and excel. We are proud of the OHSU members who are advancing research on gun violence; providing health care to all people in a respectful and compassionate way; and working to advance policy changes that are making OHSU and our state safer and more welcoming for everyone.
